When real music ringtones started to become available, one of the nicest benefits was that people could enjoy really great sound quality and could utilize just about any file format of music. For those who are die-hard music lovers, as well as for people who just enjoy a better quality of sound, the improvements in technology have been welcomed, as have the many free US cellular ringtones from which people can now choose.
The cool thing about the huge selection of cellular ringtones these days is that a great many of the websites are offering free cell ringtones. That's right! Completely free mobile ringtones with no strings attached. The companies that offer these free downloadable ringtones are usually covered with all kinds of advertising on their websites and they hope that you will click on their ads so that they can make some money from your visit.
However, clicking on the ads on these sites is not mandatory and the cellular phone ringtone variety to choose from on some of these sites is really amazing. Some people get so excited about the many free US cellular ringtones that they can choose from that they spend hours and hours listening to samples and downloading more free cell ringtones than they can probably even fit on their phone.
On these sites that offer the free cell ringtones, you will be able to choose from an enormous offering of real music ringtones that cover many genres, such as rock, pop, rap, and jazz. There are even Christian ringtones with inspirational music, or you could download a ring tone of a stand up comedian telling jokes. Once you choose the ring tone you want, download it to your computer or to your cellphone and then use it for your personal ringtone.
You can also use these free ringtones to help you identify who is calling you. Many people don't even realize they have this function on their cell phone. Almost all of the newer cell phones allow you to program the phone book that is in your phone so that when a specific person calls, as long as it is from a number that is listed in your phone book, the caller ringtone that you have assigned to that person will be activated.
A lot of people have a great deal of fun assigning funny caller ringtones to the phone book listing of different friends or family members. The best thing about using this feature is that you will know exactly who is calling you even if you don't look at your phone. Downloading lots of free ringtones to your cell will give you plenty of choices and will let you give everyone in your phone book their own distinctive cellular phone ringtone.
There are some websites that advertise that they have free US cellular ringtones for you to download, but in reality they make you pay for credits or points. Sometimes they will give you a few points just for filling out their form with your email address. Usually that will give you one or two free downloadable ringtones, but if you want more than that you will have to buy additional credits.

How To Get The Best Ringtones For Your Cell Phone
If you are the type of person who has to have custom everything, then there is no doubt that you will want to download at least a couple of custom ringtones for your cell phone. However, those who are into customization usually do not want to go half way with their money, meaning that the items that they customize must start off being the best top of the line products in the first place.
They purchase expensive cars and then modify them with cutting edge electronics and various external accessories such as fancy rims or after market exhaust systems. They may purchase a high end watch and then add various precious stones and even more expensive watch bands to it to practically double its value. And when it comes to home electronics, they will settle for nothing less than their own built in home theater system complete with hide-away screen and high definition projector.
While all of these items may seem absurdly overpriced to the layperson, they are just par for the course when it comes to someone who has to have the best of everything. However, even the most critical connoisseur of high end electronics will quickly realize that when it comes to cell phones and ringtones, you do not have to spend a fortune to get your own highly customized product.
The hunt for the perfect cell phone for ringtones begins at your local wireless provider’s store. They will have a massive selection of different phones for you to choose from, but even if you do not have the want or the need for the best phone on the market, under no circumstances should you be tempted to get the free phone if you want to enjoy the best ringtones out there. Instead, look towards phones in the fifty to one hundred dollar range.
These phones will have a variety of great goodies such as cameras and external screens and all other kinds of cool gizmos, but what they will also have that you really need if you want to make the most out of your ringtones is a blazing fast download speed. You see, most new phones out there take advantage of extremely fast downloads thanks to new wireless technology. Not all phones can download the same speed, mind you, so be on the lookout for phones from Cingular for example that say things like “3G” to denote that they are the fastest in their class.
While the downloading speed of your phone is a major player in the race to get the best ringtones out there, you will also want to make sure that your phone has mp3 player capabilities built into it. Phones with mp3 players will be able to play mp3 ringtones which will give you the absolute best in ringtone quality for your buck.

Free Real Music Ringtones
Real Music ringtones are ringtones that came from "real" or actual songs. They use original pieces of music along with lyrics, exactly as the original recording. The format is usually MP3, WAV, WMA, etc. This feature and support for real music ringtones is being built into most new models of almost all mobile phone manufacturers. Real Music Ringtones are also called true tones, real tones, voice tones, full music or MP3 ringtones. Not all mobile phones are capable of playing real music ringtones, but if you have the new models most likely your mobile phone supports it.
This new innovation in the mobile world has greatly benefited the music industry. In US alone the sale of ringtone reached $500 million last year and is targeted to reach $600 this year that is according to songwriter and music publisher trade group BMI. Also according to Billboard ringtone sales reached $4.4 billion dollar globally last year. By comparison, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) said that sales of physical CDs, cassettes and videos fell 7.6 percent last year. Those figures clearly show how popular ringtones or real music ringtones in particular are right now.
Real music ringtones usually sales around $2.50 to $3.50 per ringtone, and with the popularity of real music ringtones I don't see this price going down. The demand for real music ringtones is immense and ever growing. An interesting fact about this is that the majority of active users are young people. The easy access of real music ringtones through the internet has made ringtone industry a big success. Before downloading real music ringtones from a website, be sure first that they are compatible with your phone model and, second that they can be delivered over your mobile phone company's network. You can usually see this information on the download page.
Although real music ringtones are being sold now like hot cakes, there will always be a way to get them absolutely free. There are websites that will let you download free real music ringtones in mp3 format to your computer, you can then transfer this free real music ringtone using USB data cable, blue tooth, instant message, email etc., but there is an issue of legality here. Just like all other music, real music ringtones are protected by copyrights. Meaning, unless the copyright is expired, the original artist is due a royalty for use of their work. But of course that is not my topic so let’s move on.
You can also download free real music ringtones from WAP sites, but your mobile phone must be web enabled or internet enabled. This is one of the best ways to download free real music ringtones directly to your mobile phone. You can search for WAP sites that offer this service on the internet and just follow their instruction on how to get this free real music ringtone to you mobile phone.
You can also make real music ringtones from your own music collection. There are softwares on the internet called “ringtone maker” and are designed specifically to make ringtones. These softwares are for sale, the prices vary from $10 to $20. Think of it as an investment, rather than buying one real music ringtone at a time for 2$ you can purchase a “ringtone maker” and make all the ringtones you need. Before buying one I suggest that you download a free trial of the software so you can test it first and they just pay for it once it suits your needs.

How to Make Your Own Ringtones
In this tutorial, We will guide you in the step by step process for making your own MP3 ringtones.
Tools you need:
* Cell phone that support MP3 ringtones.
* Music CD or MP3 Music File
* Any method of transferring the ringtones from computer to phone (USB, Bluetooth, e-mail, instant message, etc.)
* Audacity v1.3 beta
* Lame v3.96.1
* MP3 Converter (to convert audio cd file to mp3 format)
Instructions:
If you plan to create your MP3 ringtones from a CD, rip the song you want as a WAV (Windows) or an AIFF file (Mac). It's a good idea to specify a new ripping location, too, so the ripped song wont be mixed up with the rest of your collection. But if you're creating your ringtones from an MP3 song, you may want to copy that MP3 song into a new folder so that when we edit the MP3 the audio-editing software won't messed up your original MP3 song.
Now, If you don't have any of the above mentioned audio file types you can use your own Audio CD. But, you will need to use a separate software to convert them to MP3, Wave or AIFF. You can also download MP3 songs the Internet.
Once you have chosen the song to edit and converted it to our desired digital music format (whether WAV, AIFF or MP3), run your audio-editing software. In this case we will be using Audacity, it is free, open source and runs on both Mac and PC. If you don't have Audacity you can download a copy of the file here http://audacity.sourceforge.net/.
Also Audacity needs another separate program (actually its called library) for MP3 compression. We will be using Lame, LAME is an MPEG Audio Layer III (MP3) encoder, you can download Lame Library here http://lame.sourceforge.net/index.php . Once your download is complete you need to decompressed the file. Please take note where you decompressed the file.
So once you have all the tools we need, let's start!
Run Audacity, go to Edit/Preferences/File Format menu, and click the "Find Library" button near the bottom of the screen. Navigate to the folder where you decompressed the Lame Library File, and select it. Also set your bit rate to 128 Kbps. You can choose a lower bit rate to save space on your phone, but you'll get lower-quality sound.
Now continue with Audacity, in Audacity's File menu, select Open and find the music you want to create for your MP3 ringtone. It might take some time for Audacity to import your music depending on its size, the location and the speed of your computer. Just be patient!
Once the importing is done, you will see your music laid out from left to right. Click and drag your mouse around until you find the section you want for your MP3 ringtone. You can listen to your selection by pressing the spacebar, just play around until you find the part that you want to make as your MP3 ringtone. You're looking for a phrase of 10 to 15 seconds or so. Once you found what you want for your MP3 ringtone you now go to "File" Menu and click on "Export selection as MP3".
Audacity comes with several effects; to try them out, leave the ringtone selected in the Audacity window, and then select anything in the Effect menu.Adding these effects is a matter of taste, but I figure it adds a bit of spice to the ringtone and makes it more of an individual statement.
So once all is set and you've finalize your mp3 ringtone, it's time to transfer the ringtone onto your phone. The easiest way to do this is with Bluetooth, assuming you have already paired your computer and cell phone. If your phone came with a USB connection, use that; otherwise, try e-mailing or texting it as an attachment. If you need some info about datacables please go here http://real-ringtones.awardspace.com/datacables.html. Put the mp3 ringtone file into the Audio folder if your phone has one, and then select the new ringtone in your Tools or Options menu. Each brand of phones has a separate way of adding or selecting new ringtones, but this tutorial does not cover that.
So that's it! I hope you enjoy your new MP3 Ringtone!
